I am currently working on argumentative writing support for English-as-foreign-language (EFL) learners, supervised by Prof. Takenobu Tokunaga. We are also working with Prof. Simone Teufel.
My research aims to help EFL students to write a coherent argument. In our swiftly changing global society, students have to cultivate their skills to make a coherent and logical argument in order to convince others that their opinions are important, on top of having superb command on English. Since most English speakers are non-native, this research is vital at the global scale. We approach this research from a multi-disciplinary perspective, including computer science, linguistics, and education. The techniques I use in my research can also be useful for text analytics, assessment and discourse analysis.
